The critics' consensus at Rotten Tomatoes gave the motion picture a solid 100% score and said it offers "narrative depth, frank honesty, and exquisite visual beauty," calling it "a modern animated treasure with timeless appeal.

A short synopsis shares the story of a tiny nymph found inside a bamboo stalk that grows into a beautiful young woman. When males begin seeking Kaguya's romantic attention, she orders suitors to prove their love by completing a series of nearly impossible tasks.

The Tale

This time, The Tale takes viewers on an unusual and remarkable journey of remembrance when Jennifer (as portrayed by the legendary Laura Dern) discovers a journal she wrote as a teenager. Based on real events experienced by the movie's writer and director (Jennifer Fox), she returns to the Carolina horse farm where she was raised. In an attempt to reconcile her memories with the truth, Jennifer's search for reality takes her on a trip of eye-opening understanding and awareness.
